do I set the image resolution to 300 PPI.

Important. Your original image when opened may show the resolution at 72 ppi which is normal screen resolution. Itis thepixel dimensions which are important. To find the optimum size that your image can be printed without losing any information change the resolution to 300 ppi.
Open your image and go to Image > Image Size and select image size


Or you can right mouse click on the blue line at the top of the image to bring up the image and canvas size box.

Leave Resample Image set to bicubic.
Always leave Constrain Proportions checked, as this will stop
your image from being distorted.
Resampling the image will change the number of pixels which is mormal.

How to re-size an image.
Resizing the file / image will change the size of the file.

Constrain Proportion must be checked to re-size an image without distorting it.
To re-size highlight one dimension and type in the new size required, note that the other size dimension will change in ratio.

*Note: do not resize too high in one go. (eg: to go from 4in x 6in to a 12in x 18in file you would be best to step up in several steps as in 4in x 6in, 6in x 8in, 8in x 12in etc ) It is important that you now crop this file / image to the size that you require. ie: 8in x 10in etc.
If you do not wish to crop off any of the image, you will need to re-size the canvas.
How to save an image as a Jpeg.
Go to File > Save As .

In the Save As box > select JPEG In the JPEG options box > select Maximum Ð level 12 and Base Line Standard.

Set the size to 56.6Kbps or higher depending on your internet connection.
How to set or change an canvas size.
To re-size the canvas, go to Image > canvas size.

This box will appear with the current image size displayed.

You can select where you wish to place the image on the new canvas size.

Type in the size of the print canvas required (both width and height) eg: 6in x 8in
